Export Narrative Responses From An LGT Question To Excel And Locate Them In The Completed Workbook


Create the Longitudinal Goal Tracking (LGT) Data Export

  1. In Report Data, open Single Row Exports.
  2. Select By Group Identifier.

CAUTION: Select the group identifier export. Reporter-based and group-based exports use different data paths.

  1. In Step 1, select By Question.
  2. Click Customize.
  3. Select the category that contains the LGT question.
  4. Select the specific LGT question within that category.
  5. Click Set to apply the question selection.


Select Identifiers

The group associated with the selected LGT question should already be selected.

  1. Click Select Identifiers.
  2. Select the identifiers to include in the export.
    1. Select All when you need a complete set of identifiers.
  3. Click Set to apply your selections.


Set the Reporting Period

  1. Choose how you want to define the reporting period:
    • Launch Period
    • Date
  2. Select the launch period or date range you want to include.
  3. Click Set to apply the reporting period.
TIP: Use Launch Period when you want the export to align with an established reporting cycle.

Configure Export Options

  1. Under Export Options, click Customize.
  2. Select any additional formatting or identifier options you need.
    Available options may include:
    1. Highlight No Data Cells to make empty data cells easier to identify
    2. Identifier fields from the group identifier profile
  3. Click Set to apply the export options.

TIP: Enable Highlight No Data Cells when you are reviewing missing or incomplete responses.


Export the Report to Excel

  1. Click Export to Excel.
  2. Close or leave the report page after the export begins.

The system will email you when the report is ready. You do not need to keep the report page open or refresh it while the export runs.


Download and Open the Workbook

  1. Open the completed report using the link provided when the export is ready.
  2. Download the Excel workbook.
  3. Open the workbook in Excel.

Find the Narrative Data

  1. Open the Workbook Info tab.

    Use this tab as a guide to understand what information appears on the other workbook tabs.
  2. Open the All Question Data tab to review summary information about who submitted data for the selected question.
  3. Locate the tab named Goal_ followed by a series of numbers.

    This tab contains the narrative data associated with each goal. Any included uploads also appear on this tab.

  4. Locate the Status field in the goal_ tab.
  5. Review the columns that follow Status to find the narrative responses.

NOTE: The exact narrative column can vary between exports. In one example, narrative responses began in Column N. Use the field names after Status rather than relying on a specific column letter.
